Recommendations – PAG 2015

  1. 1.    INCREASE SWIMMER QUOTA – From the present 256 swimmers to 280-300 swimmers.
  • In both Rio 2007 and Guadalajara 2011, it was necessary to increase the quota from 256 just before the start of competition in order to allow eligible swimmers to enter the Pan American Games.
    • Increasing the quota brings more participation opportunities to the smaller UANA countries
  1. 2.    LIMIT THE TEAM SIZE of each country (instead of the present 52 athletes)
  • § Limit team size to 36 Swimmers per country (18 girls and 18 boys)

(This would increase significantly the spots open to smaller countries)

  1. 3.    NUMBER OF SWIMS for each individual swimmer:
  • Federation swimmers who qualify for the meet with at least one (1) qualifying time may enter up to a maximum of  5 INDIVIDUAL EVENTS.
  • “Universality” athletes will be permitted to swim up to 3 Individual Events, (which is an increase from the present one single event permitted).
  • These increases in the number of athlete swims shall still comply with the FINA Rule which states that only 2 swimmers per country are permitted in each event.
  1. 4.    MEET FORMAT:
  • Preliminary Heats, “A” Finals, and “B” Finals for all events except Relays and distance events.
  • 800m/1500m to be swum as Timed Final events – Slower heats in the morning and Fastest heat at night.
  • Relays will be swum with preliminary Heats in the morning and “A” Finals at night.
  1. 5.    SELECTION PROCESS: (order of selection)
    1. All swimmers achieving an “A” Qualifying Standard
    2. All Relays and relay swimmers
    3. All “Relay-Only” swimmers
    4. Universality Athletes (1 male & 1 female per Federation)
    5. Swimmers who have achieved the “B: Standard – to fill out the quota allotted for swimming.
  1. 6.    ELIGIBLE QUALIFYING EVENTS:
  • The UANA TSC recommends that the eligible qualifying events for the 2015 Pan American Games be the same competitions designated as qualifying events for the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan through to the entry deadline for the Toronto 2015 PAG.
  1. 7.    ENTRY SYSTEM for PAG 2015:
  • The UANA TSC recommends that we utilize the FINA on-Line Meet Entry system for swimmer entries for the 2015 PAG.
