Bronte Campbell e Emily Seebohm as melhores do ano na Austrália

Pela segunda vez na história do Prêmio de Atleta do Ano na Austrália, um empate, desta vez entre duas mulheres. Emily Seebohm e Bronte Campbell, vencedoras de três medalhas de ouro no Campeonato Mundial de Kazan foram escolhidas como as atletas do ano na cerimônia anual realizada pela Federação de Natação.

O outro empate havia sido em 2003 quando Grant Hackett e Ian Thorpe dividiram o prêmio. Seebohm foi campeã das provas de 100 e 200 costas e Campbell a surpresa ao levar os 50 e 100 livre em Kazan. As duas estavam juntas na medalha de ouro no 4×100 livre feminino.

A conquista marca um domínio das mulheres na natação australiana nos últimos anos. Foi o quarto ano consecutivo de vitória feminina. O último homem a vencer o prêmio foi James Magnussen em 2011. Ele foi o único a levar nos últimos dez anos.

O Prêmio de Melhor do Ano na Austrália é distribuído desde 1990. Além das duas, Mitchell Larkin, campeão dos 100 e 200 costas em Kazan, foi escolhido como o Nadador do Ano na escolha dos integrantes da Seleção Australiana e seu técnico, Michael Bohl, o treinador do ano.
