A Federação Internacional de Natação passou um bom tempo sem estatísticas confiáveis. A partir de 2004, tanto o site quanto dentro da entidade houve um investimento na área de imprensa e estatística. O ranking mundial tinha uma parceria de longa data com o falecido Nick Thierry, fundador do site SwimNews.com, mas em tempo de Internet a FINA acabou trazendo o ranking para si e agora mantém uma parceria com a USA Swimming para gerar e abastecer o ranking mundial.

Uma mudança significativa é a disponiblidade de informação, principalmente histórica, da natação. Em 2010, a FINA disponibilizou em seu site a HistoFINA, uma seção que faz parte das estatísticas e que visa abastecer a indústria midiática com fatos, curiosidades e números que ajudem os jornalistas esportivos a criar suas histórias.

Ainda tentando se consolidar, a biografia dos atletas tem sido um desafio para a Federação, cuja manutenção de dados biográficos e histórico de resultados dos principais atletas do mundo requer uma atenção quase que semanal.
